Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Oil India Limited (OIL) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at India Energy Week (IEW) 2026 to collaborate on the development of a Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) project, marking a significant step toward advancing India’s clean energy and waste-to-energy initiatives.

The MoU establishes a framework for joint efforts between the two public sector undertakings to promote cleaner, sustainable, and indigenous energy solutions.

Collaboration for Clean and Sustainable Energy

Under the partnership, Oil India Limited will implement a CBG plant using HPCL’s indigenously developed HP RAMP technology, which enables efficient conversion of organic waste into compressed bio-gas.

HPCL will provide technology support and technical expertise, while OIL will leverage its operational and execution capabilities to develop and run the project. The collaboration brings together HPCL’s innovation-driven technology and OIL’s strong operational experience in the energy sector.

  • Encouraging indigenous technology development

By converting waste into clean fuel, the CBG project is expected to contribute meaningfully to sustainable energy development and reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuels.

Role of Public Sector Enterprises in Energy Transition

The MoU reinforces the role of public sector undertakings (PSUs) in driving innovation, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. The collaboration highlights how PSUs can jointly develop scalable solutions to address climate challenges while supporting India’s long-term energy transition goals.
