Hyderabad: Hyderabad commuters may soon be able to use a single pass for Metro Rail and RTC bus services, after Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, a 1992-batch IAS officer of the Telangana cadre, directed officials to introduce joint daily and monthly passes.

The directive was issued during a coordination meeting at Metro Rail Bhavan in Begumpet on September 6. Officials from Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) informed the Chief Secretary that the technical arrangements for the integrated pass system had already been finalised

Key Points

  • Joint Metro-RTC pass: Daily and monthly passes are to be introduced for commuters using both services.
  • Technical readiness: HMRL and TGSRTC officials said arrangements for implementing the system are already in place.
  • Fare structure pending: Officials have been directed to finalise the joint fare structure quickly.
  • Old City Metro corridor: Road-widening work on the 7.5-km corridor has been ordered to be expedited.
  • Metro inspection: Jaju travelled from Begumpet to Paradise and reviewed facilities at Metro stations.

Joint Pass to Integrate Metro and Bus Travel

Jaju directed Metro and RTC officials to make arrangements for daily and monthly joint passes, with the objective of making travel between the two public transport systems more convenient.

Officials from L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail and TGSRTC said they are technically prepared to introduce the facility and have completed the arrangements required for its implementation. The Chief Secretary directed officials to finalise the combined fare structure and roll out the pass system at the earliest.

The initiative would allow commuters who use both Metro and RTC services to access the two modes through a common pass once the fare structure and implementation process are finalised.

Old City Metro Corridor Work Reviewed

During the meeting, Jaju also reviewed the status of road-widening works linked to the Old City Metro corridor.

Officials briefed him on the tender process for appointing a General Consultant. The Chief Secretary directed authorities to speed up the expansion work along the 7.5-km Old City corridor and ensure that Metro project activities begin swiftly.

Metro Station and HMDA Corridor Inspection

Following the meeting, Jaju travelled by Metro from Begumpet to Paradise, accompanied by senior Metro officials. He inspected commercial complexes and parking facilities at the stations and offered suggestions regarding their further development.

He also reviewed the elevated corridors being constructed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) along NH-44.
