Alby John, the Thiruvallur District Collector, was appointed as the Managing Director of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), Chennai, on Wednesday, filling a nearly 22-year void in the organization’s leadership with an IAS officer.
Swaran Singh was the final IAS officer to lead MTC in 2001, and it appears that this was the last time the company made a profit. He was well-known for his main initiatives aimed at increasing revenue from bus ticket sales. The unions representing MTC employees hailed the change. “MTC has been struggling with huge losses worth several hundred crores and badly needs an efficient top management to clean up the mess,” transportation activist S Kamal said.
The state administration also transferred 25 IAS and IPS personnel in addition to Alby John. New collectors have been appointed in the districts of Karur, Tuticorin, and Thiruvallur. M Thangavel, joint managing director of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board, has been appointed as Karur collector in place of T Prabhu Shankar, who has been appointed as Thiruvallur collector. G Lakshmipathy has been appointed as the next Tuticorin collector.
E Sundaravalli, managing director of the State Industries Promotion Corporation, has been appointed commissioner of Employment and Training, succeeding Veera Raghava Rao, who has been appointed commissioner of Technical Education.
K Vannia Perumal, the Director General of Police (DGP), Civil Supplies CID (CS-CID), has been appointed as the Director of Civil Defence and Commandant General Home Guards. C Magheshwari has been appointed as the city police commissioner of Tirunelveli.

He also went to see a synthetic football surface that was being built. Radhakrishnan informed the audience on the completion of storm drains and road improvements in the area. Project management consultants are monitoring the road quality.
Due to unhappiness with their work, the Election Commission of India has ordered the dismissal of two district collectors and two superintendents of police in Madhya Pradesh. Furthermore, some websites and mobile applications containing references to politicians and political parties were determined to be in violation of the election model code of behavior. Outdated information, photos, and links to political websites are among the transgressions. The Election Commission has ordered that such references be removed from official websites and applications.
