The central government has appointed Ravneet Kaur, a 1988 batch IAS officer from the Punjab cadre, as the new chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
The current Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner at the Department of Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management in Chandigarh, Ms. Kaur, will take charge of the competition regulator after the post remained vacant since October last year.
As per the May 15 order, her appointment will be for five years from the date she assumes charge or till the date of her attaining the age of 65 years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The CCI Chairperson post fell vacant after the previous Chair, Ashok Kumar Gupta, retired in October 2022.
Sangeeta Verma was serving as the acting Chairperson since.
