The central government has appointed 1990 batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) officer Suman Sharma as a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). She will be on the post till May 2029 as the tenure of a UPSC member is six years or until he/she attains the age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier.
She has been the CMD of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Limited since August 29, 2021 and had a tenure till August 28, 2026. She was expected to retire on July 31, 2027.
Prior to her assignment at SECI, she worked in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GoI, as the Additional Director General of Foreign Trade, North Zone.
She started off as an IRS officer in Ahmedabad and subsequently worked in Surat, Delhi, Pune and Mumbai. She has worked with the Central Board of Direct Taxes and also gained experience in international tax while working in the Directorate of International Taxation and Transfer Pricing.
