New Delhi: The Central Government has approved the empanelment of IAS officer Saurabh Kumar (IAS:2009:CG)for holding Joint Secretary or equivalent level posts in the Government of India. In a separate development, senior IPS officers Siddharth Bahuguna (IPS:2010:MP) and Krishna Rao Boddepalli (IPS:2014:AP) have been appointed to key positions in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on central deputation.
The appointments were approved through separate orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Saurabh Kumar Empanelled for Joint Secretary-Level Posts
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Saurabh Kumar has now been empanelled to hold Joint Secretary or equivalent level posts in the Government of India.
His empanelment comes after his name was initially left out when the 2009 batch IAS officers were cleared for Joint Secretary-level empanelment.
With the latest approval, he becomes eligible for appointment to Joint Secretary or equivalent positions in various ministries and departments of the Central Government.
Currently Serving in Department of Revenue
Saurabh Kumar is presently serving on Central deputation as Director in the Department of Revenue.
He was appointed to the post in June 2025 under the Central Staffing Scheme for a tenure of five years.
His experience at the Centre is expected to strengthen his credentials for future senior policy-making assignments.
Siddharth Bahuguna Appointed DIG in CBI
In another significant appointment, senior IPS officer Siddharth Bahuguna (IPS:2010:MP) has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) order, his appointment will be for a period of five years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Before his appointment to the CBI, Bahuguna was serving as:
- Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Khargone Range, Madhya Pradesh
Krishna Rao Boddepalli Posted as SP in CBI
Senior IPS officer Krishna Rao Boddepalli (IPS:2014:AP) has also been appointed as Superintendent of Police (SP)in the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Like Bahuguna, his appointment has been approved for a five-year tenure from the date he assumes charge.

Prior to his central deputation, Boddepalli was serving as:
- Superintendent of Police, Palnadu District, Andhra Pradesh
States Asked to Relieve Officers
The Ministry of Home Affairs has requested the Governments of Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh to relieve the two IPS officers within three weeks from the date of issuance of the appointment orders so they can assume their new responsibilities in the CBI.
Strengthening Leadership at the Centre
The latest appointments reinforce the Centre’s ongoing efforts to strengthen senior leadership across key government institutions.
While Saurabh Kumar’s Joint Secretary-level empanelment opens the door for higher policy-making responsibilities in the Union Government, the induction of Siddharth Bahuguna and Krishna Rao Boddepalli into the CBI is expected to bolster the country’s premier investigative agency with experienced field officers from the Indian Police Service.
