New Delhi: Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Delhi to provide domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to 756 staff quarters across the university campus.

The agreement, signed on September 12, 2026, marks a significant step towards expanding clean and continuous natural gas access to residential communities within one of India’s leading educational institutions.

IGL to Provide PNG Connections to 756 Staff Quarters

Under the partnership, 756 staff quarters located across the University of Delhi campus will be connected to IGL’s domestic PNG network.

The initiative will provide residents with a continuous piped gas supply and reduce their dependence on conventional LPG cylinders for household cooking.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Vikas Gupta, Registrar, University of Delhi, marking an important milestone in expanding PNG infrastructure within the university campus.

Partnership to Reduce Dependence on LPG Cylinders

Domestic PNG offers a continuous supply of cooking gas through a piped network, eliminating the need for residents to regularly arrange and store LPG cylinders.

The key benefits of the project include:

  • PNG connections for 756 staff quarters
  • Continuous supply of piped natural gas
  • Reduced dependence on LPG cylinders
  • Improved convenience for university employees and their families
  • Expansion of PNG infrastructure across the Delhi campus
  • Greater access to cleaner cooking fuel in residential areas

The initiative is expected to make household cooking fuel access more convenient for staff members living on the university campus.

IGL Expands Natural Gas Infrastructure

IGL said the collaboration is part of its broader effort to expand natural gas infrastructure deeper into homes, institutions and communities across its authorised geographical areas. The company noted that the agreement is the result of sustained engagement and coordinated efforts by its acquisition and execution teams.

Initiative Supports Cleaner Cooking Fuel Access

The partnership aligns with the broader push towards increasing access to cleaner cooking fuels and expanding piped natural gas networks in urban residential areas.

By connecting staff quarters directly to the PNG network, the initiative is expected to support a more convenient and continuous cooking fuel supply while contributing to the expansion of India’s natural gas infrastructure.

Expanding PNG From Campuses to Communities

The University of Delhi project is another step in expanding PNG connectivity across residential and institutional communities. IGL said every new PNG connection contributes to the expansion of natural gas infrastructure and supports the development of a gas-based economy.

The initiative reflects the company’s focus on connecting homes, supporting institutions and expanding access to PNG across its operating areas.
