Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: With higher coal production and faster dispatch high on the operational agenda, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal on Friday visited key mining and siding operations in the Barora and Block-II Areas and reviewed measures to improve operational performance.

During the visit, Agarwal reviewed coal dispatch, mining activities, equipment availability, dewatering, crusher operations and other critical aspects. He issued directions to enhance rake loading capacity, improve machine utilisation, remove encroachments and ensure adequate infrastructure for smooth mining operations.

BCCL CMD Reviews Coal Dispatch at Key Sidings

At KKC-Link Siding in the Barora Area, CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal reviewed coal dispatch arrangements and directed officials to increase the loading capacity from two to three rakes per day.

At KKC Main Siding in the Block-II Area, he instructed the team to enhance loading capacity from two to 3.5 rakes per day.

The measures are aimed at accelerating coal dispatch and ensuring that increased production is efficiently moved to consumers.

Dewatering Measures Directed at AMP Colliery

During his visit to AMP Colliery in the Barora Area, Agarwal reviewed mining operations at Hired Patch-7.

He directed the GM (E&M) and Area Manager (E&M) to ensure timely dewatering to facilitate mining activities and support higher coal production.

Timely removal of water from mining areas is expected to help maintain operational continuity and improve productivity.

Focus on Machine Availability and Productivity

At the AMP Departmental OC Patch, the CMD directed officials to immediately improve:

  • Machine availability
  • Capacity utilisation
  • Equipment productivity
  • Overall operational efficiency

The directions are intended to ensure better utilisation of available mining equipment and remove constraints affecting production.

Encroachments to Be Removed for Mining Operations

At Left-out Patch-B, Agarwal instructed officials to remove the remaining encroachments to facilitate the commencement of mining operations.

Officials were directed to complete the required action so that mining activities can begin by September 15.

The removal of operational obstructions is expected to help unlock additional mining capacity and support higher production.

Two Additional Excavators and Dumpers Ordered at Damoda Colliery

At the Departmental OC Patch of Damoda Colliery, the CMD directed the GM, Barora Area and GM, Excavation to deploy two additional excavators along with adequate dumpers.

Before deploying the equipment, officials were asked to create sufficient obstruction-free working space by shifting encroachers.

The move is aimed at strengthening excavation capacity and improving the pace of mining operations at the patch.

Lighting and Crusher Operations Also Reviewed

Agarwal also reviewed lighting arrangements and crusher operations during his visit.

He directed officials to ensure adequate lighting during night operations to support safe and efficient working conditions.

He also instructed teams to undertake timely maintenance of mining and allied equipment to minimise breakdowns and maintain operational efficiency.

BCCL Focuses on Higher Production and Faster Dispatch

The CMD’s directions across the Barora and Block-II Areas are focused on improving machine utilisation, addressing operational bottlenecks and increasing productivity.

Key priorities include:

  • Increasing rake loading capacity at major sidings
  • Improving machine availability and capacity utilisation
  • Ensuring timely dewatering at mining patches
  • Removing encroachments to enable mining operations
  • Deploying additional excavators and dumpers
  • Strengthening night-time lighting arrangements
  • Ensuring timely maintenance of mining and allied equipment
  • Accelerating coal production and dispatch

These measures are expected to contribute to improved production and faster coal movement across Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).
