BCCL Raises Coal Dispatch Targets at BNR and Burragarh Sidings to Boost Evacuation

Dispatch target raised to 3.5 rakes per day at BNR and 2–3 rakes at Burragarh to strengthen coal evacuation and meet rising power sector demand
Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has stepped up efforts to accelerate coal evacuation and strengthen dispatch to meet the growing requirements of the power sector. BCCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Manoj Kumar Agarwal inspected BNR Siding in Kusunda Area and Burragarh Siding in Bastakola Area to review coal dispatch, operational arrangements and infrastructure requirements.

During the field inspection, the CMD directed officials to substantially increase daily rake movement at both sidings and improve the utilisation of available evacuation infrastructure.

BNR Siding Dispatch Target Raised to 3.5 Rakes Per Day

At BNR Siding, the current coal dispatch is around two rakes per day. The CMD directed the team to immediately increase the target to 3.5 rakes per day.

The revised target is aimed at improving coal evacuation and ensuring that available production is moved efficiently to consumers, particularly power plants facing rising coal requirements.

Burragarh Siding Target Increased to 2–3 Rakes Daily

At Burragarh Siding in Bastakola Area, dispatch currently stands at around 1.5 rakes per day. Following the inspection, the target has been increased to 2–3 rakes per day.

The enhanced target is expected to strengthen BCCL’s daily coal evacuation capacity and support more consistent supplies to the power sector.

Key Dispatch Targets

  • BNR Siding: Dispatch to increase from around 2 to 3.5 rakes per day
  • Burragarh Siding: Dispatch to increase from around 1.5 to 2–3 rakes per day
  • Overall focus: Faster coal loading, improved rake handling and better utilisation of available infrastructure

BCCL Focuses on Siding Capacity and Efficient Evacuation

Railway sidings play a crucial role in connecting coal production with final consumers. Improvements in loading and rake-handling capacity can directly contribute to faster evacuation and higher coal movement.

BCCL is reviewing operational requirements at its sidings with a focus on:

  • Identifying and removing operational bottlenecks
  • Improving coal loading efficiency
  • Increasing the number of rakes handled each day
  • Making better use of existing infrastructure and resources
  • Strengthening the overall coal evacuation network

The increased rake movement targets at BNR and Burragarh are expected to add to the company’s daily evacuation capacity and facilitate the movement of coal to power plants.

Faster Coal Evacuation to Support Power Sector

The directions come amid growing coal requirements from the power sector. With coal continuing to remain an important fuel for India’s electricity generation, timely and dependable supplies are essential for meeting rising power demand.

BCCL is therefore focusing not only on coal production but also on efficient evacuation and dispatch. Higher rake movement will help ensure that increased coal availability translates into higher actual dispatch to consumers.

CMD’s Field-Level Review Highlights Operational Efficiency

The CMD’s inspection and specific dispatch targets underline BCCL’s emphasis on faster coal evacuation, operational efficiency and timely coal supply.

The key objectives include:

  • Increasing rake movement at important railway sidings
  • Improving utilisation of existing facilities
  • Strengthening coal evacuation capacity
  • Ensuring timely movement of coal to consumers
  • Supporting reliable coal supplies to the power sector

By improving the efficiency of its evacuation network, BCCL aims to strengthen the coal supply chain and contribute to the country’s broader energy requirements.
