New Delhi: The Department of Posts (DoP) is aiming for a 30 percent increase in revenue in the current financial year, targeting ₹17,546 crore by March 2026, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Thursday. The ambitious growth plan reflects India Post’s focus on transforming from a cost center into a profit center over the next 4–5 years.
Revenue Growth Across Multiple Vertical Segments
During the third quarterly review, Minister Scindia highlighted that four out of six postal verticals have shown significant growth.
- Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) revenue rose from ₹5,000 crore to ₹5,426 crore, marking a 7% growth.
- Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural PLI revenue grew from ₹930 crore to ₹1,030 crore, an 11% increase.
- Parcel services saw growth from ₹431 crore to ₹485 crore, a 12% rise.
- Citizen-centric services revenue almost doubled from ₹328 crore to ₹641 crore.
However, mail and international mail services remained largely static due to challenges with US restrictions. Mail services generated around ₹1,625 crore, while international mails stood at ₹450 crore. International mail service to the US was suspended for nearly two months but resumed from October 15, 2025.

Strong Cumulative Growth and Last Quarter Boost
For the first three quarters of FY26, India Post recorded ₹10,200 crore, compared to ₹9,300 crore in the same period last year, reflecting a 9% growth rate. The department expects the final quarter of the fiscal year to provide a substantial revenue boost, similar to the previous year, where ₹4,000 crore was added in the last quarter, helping close FY25 at ₹13,240 crore.
Scindia’s Vision: From Cost Centre to Profit Centre
Minister Scindia emphasized that while India Post remains a cost centre, the department is working to become a profit centre in the next 4–5 years. The aggressive revenue targets reflect a strategic push to capitalize on growing demand for banking, insurance, parcel, and citizen-centric services across India.
