Focus on Marine-Grade Aluminium

A key objective of the agreement is the domestic manufacturing and supply of marine-grade aluminium. Marine-grade aluminium is widely used in shipbuilding because it is lightweight, corrosion-resistant and durable. It helps improve vessel performance while reducing maintenance requirements.

Supporting Future Shipbuilding Projects

The collaboration aims to ensure a reliable domestic supply chain for critical materials required in future Coast Guard and maritime projects. By sourcing marine-grade aluminium within India, the country can reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and strengthen its strategic industrial capabilities.

Boost for Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India

The agreement aligns with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. The partnership is expected to encourage greater participation of Indian industries in defence and maritime manufacturing while promoting technological advancement and self-reliance.

Benefits for India’s Maritime Sector

Officials believe the collaboration will improve operational efficiency and support the development of advanced maritime platforms. The initiative is also expected to create a stronger domestic defence ecosystem by connecting industry expertise with national security requirements.
