New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways on Thursday announced a major reform initiative, aiming to implement 52 key measures in 52 weeks across India. A key priority of the reform drive is enhancing railway safety. Minister Vaishnaw highlighted that consequential train accidents have already declined by nearly 90%, from 135 in 2014–15 to 11 in 2025–26, and the ministry now aims to bring the figure down to a single digit.
The reforms will include advanced monitoring systems, improved maintenance protocols, and deployment of artificial intelligence to strengthen safety measures across the network.
Technology and AI Integration

These measures aim to modernize operations and reduce human error, ensuring safer and more reliable rail services.
Talent Management and Skill Development
Another key component of the plan is revamping employee training and skill development. The ministry will explore innovative methods for talent management, including upskilling programs and capacity-building initiatives, to strengthen the workforce and improve passenger-centric services.
