In a bid to ease passenger rush during the upcoming festival season, Indian Railways has announced a special “Round Trip Package for Festival Rush” scheme, offering a 20% rebate on the base fare of return tickets for select travel dates.
The initiative aims to redistribute peak passenger traffic, ensure smoother bookings, and improve utilisation of trains — including special trains — in both directions during high-demand periods.
Key Details of the Scheme:
- Booking Start Date: August 14, 2025, for onward journeys starting from October 13 to October 26, 2025.
- Return Journey Window: November 17 to December 1, 2025.
- Discount: 20% rebate on the base fare of the return journey, applicable only when booking both onward and return tickets for the same passengers, class, and origin-destination pair.
- Ticket Conditions: Only confirmed tickets in both directions are eligible. No refunds, modifications, or additional discounts will be permitted.
- Applicability: Valid for all classes and trains, including special trains, but excludes services with flexi fare.
- Booking Channels: Both legs of the journey must be booked via the same mode — either online or at railway reservation counters.
The Ministry of Railways has emphasised that the scheme is experimental and comes with the concurrence of the Finance Directorate. Wide publicity through press, media, and station announcements will follow to inform passengers.
Officials said the measure is part of Indian Railways’ broader effort to manage festival season congestion while offering passengers a cost benefit for planning their trips in advance.
