Indian Railways Recommends Premature Retirement of 5 Group ‘A’ Officers Under Public Interest Rule, Reaffirms Zero Tolerance Against Corruption

The Railway Board has recommended the premature retirement of five Group ‘A’ officers after reviewing their performance, integrity, vigilance records and disciplinary history under Rule 1802(a) of the Indian Railway Establishment Code.

New Delhi: The Railway Board has recommended the premature retirement of five Group ‘A’ officers in public interest following a comprehensive review of their service records under Rule 1802(a) of the Indian Railway Establishment Code, Volume II, equivalent to Rule 56(j) of the Fundamental Rules. The decision reflects Indian Railways’ policy of maintaining high standards of integrity, discipline and accountability in public service.

The recommendations were made by Review Committees constituted by the Railway Board, Ministry of Railways, after carrying out a detailed assessment of the officers’ overall service records in accordance with the prescribed procedure.

Officers Recommended for Premature Retirement

The Review Committees recommended the premature retirement of the following officers:

  • Two Senior Administrative Grade (SAG) officers of the Indian Railway Health Service (IRHS)
  • One Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) in Northern Railway
  • One officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) in Northern Railway
  • One Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) in Western Railway

The action has been taken in public interest under the provisions of Rule 1802(a) of the Indian Railway Establishment Code, which empowers the government to retire officers prematurely after a prescribed review when considered necessary.

Comprehensive Review Process

According to the Ministry of Railways, the Review Committees conducted a detailed examination of each officer’s service record before arriving at their recommendations.

The assessment included:

  • Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs)
  • Integrity records
  • Vigilance inputs
  • Disciplinary history
  • Other relevant service records

Following the review, the committees unanimously recommended the premature retirement of the five officers in their respective cases.

Upholding Integrity and Accountability

The Ministry of Railways said the decision is in line with Indian Railways’ policy of zero tolerance towards corruption, lack of integrity and inefficiency.

It emphasised that integrity, discipline and accountability remain non-negotiable principles in public service. The Ministry added that actions taken under the relevant provisions of the Indian Railway Establishment Code are aimed at preserving these standards and ensuring an efficient, transparent and accountable railway administration.

The latest action underscores the Indian Railway’s continued focus on maintaining high ethical and professional standards within the Indian Railways through periodic reviews of officers’ performance and conduct.
