New Delhi: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) has become the first Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) in India to issue digital Offers of Appointment through DigiLocker, marking a significant shift towards secure, verified and paperless recruitment documentation.
The initiative has been launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Under the new system, candidates selected for jobs at IndianOil will receive their Offers of Appointment digitally through DigiLocker.
The move will allow candidates to access their verified appointment documents from anywhere without depending on physical copies.
IndianOil Introduces Secure Digital Appointment Letters
The DigiLocker-based system is aimed at making the recruitment and appointment process more convenient, secure and paperless.
Under the initiative, selected candidates will be able to access their official Offers of Appointment digitally through DigiLocker.
Key features of the digital appointment system
- Paperless documentation: Candidates will receive their Offers of Appointment digitally instead of relying on physical documents.
- Verified appointment letters: Documents will be available through the government-backed DigiLocker platform.
- Easy access: Candidates can access their appointment documents from anywhere.
- Greater authenticity: Digital verification will provide an additional layer of authenticity to appointment letters.
- Simplified recruitment: The system is expected to make the appointment process more convenient and efficient.
DigiLocker Move Aims to Curb Fake Job Offers
IndianOil said the initiative will also help protect job aspirants against fraudulent appointment letters and recruitment-related scams.
Fake recruitment advertisements and appointment letters issued in the names of major public sector companies have been a recurring concern. Fraudsters often target job seekers by falsely claiming to represent PSUs and, in some cases, seeking money from candidates.
The DigiLocker route provides candidates with a digitally verifiable document issued through an official government-backed platform. This can help candidates verify the authenticity of their appointment documents and reduce the risk of falling victim to fake job offers.
IndianOil Focuses on Digital Employee Onboarding
IndianOil said the initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise its human resource processes and improve the employee experience from the time candidates enter the organisation.
The company said HR systems need to move beyond simply administering processes and increasingly focus on creating simpler and more convenient employee experiences.
This is particularly relevant for younger recruits, who are increasingly accustomed to services that are immediate, intuitive and digitally accessible.
The digital appointment system is therefore expected to support a smoother and more convenient onboarding experience for new employees.
Shift Towards Paperless HR Processes
The initiative reflects IndianOil’s efforts to use digital technology to simplify employee-related processes while improving document security and accessibility.
By providing appointment letters through DigiLocker, the company is combining digital convenience, document verification and paperless recruitment.
The move also strengthens the role of digital platforms in employee onboarding and supports the wider adoption of technology-driven HR processes.
