NEW DELHI: Amid rising concerns over a possible LPG shortage due to escalating tensions in West Asia, Indian Oil Corporation (IndianOil) has reassured citizens that the country’s LPG supply remains stable and uninterrupted, dismissing reports of widespread irregularities such as “ghost deliveries.”
In a detailed clarification issued on Monday, the public sector oil major emphasized that India’s LPG distribution system is robust, transparent, and driven by advanced technology, capable of withstanding global supply pressures.
No Evidence of Systemic Failure
Responding to recent media reports alleging delivery discrepancies, IndianOil stated that no systemic irregularities exist in its nationwide LPG distribution network.
While acknowledging that a few isolated incidents of delivery issues have been reported, the company said these are treated as serious violations. Each case is promptly investigated, and strict disciplinary action is taken wherever lapses are found.

The company stressed that despite global uncertainties, the LPG network continues to serve lakhs of households daily without disruption.
Stronger Delivery Authentication System
To ensure that LPG cylinders are delivered only to genuine consumers, IndianOil has significantly strengthened its Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) mechanism.
A secure 6-digit DAC/OTP system has been widely implemented, making it mandatory for customers to verify delivery before receiving cylinders. The company underlined that any deviation from this protocol is dealt with strictly.
End-to-End Digital Tracking of Cylinders
IndianOil highlighted that LPG cylinders are digitally tracked across the entire supply chain – from bottling plants to final delivery.
This end-to-end monitoring system minimizes the risk of diversion, leakage, or unauthorised handling, ensuring transparency and accountability at every stage of distribution.
Enhanced System Safeguards and Security
Further strengthening its systems, the company has:
- Secured application programming interfaces (APIs)
- Limited retry attempts to prevent misuse
- Deployed real-time monitoring through its Security Operations Center
Suspicious activities identified by the system are proactively blacklisted, reinforcing the integrity of LPG delivery operations.
Strict Vigilance and Enforcement Drives
IndianOil said it conducts regular surprise inspections and audits, often in coordination with local authorities, to curb malpractices such as diversion of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial use.
Recent enforcement drives across states have led to the seizure of illegally diverted cylinders and penal action against violators, further tightening control over the distribution network.
Consumer Advisory Amid Heightened Concerns
Given the heightened sensitivity around fuel supply due to geopolitical tensions, IndianOil has issued an advisory urging consumers to:
- Share OTPs only at the time of actual delivery
- Use authorised booking channels
- Report grievances through official platforms for quick resolution
Commitment to Uninterrupted Supply
Reiterating its commitment, IndianOil assured that uninterrupted LPG supply will be maintained across the country, backed by strong monitoring systems and strict enforcement mechanisms.
The company emphasized that despite global challenges, including the ongoing West Asia crisis, India’s LPG distribution framework remains resilient and reliable.
