Dr. Sajid Farid Shapoo, a 1998-batch IPS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has assumed charge as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of BEML Limited, a leading Defence Public Sector Undertaking. BEML made the announcement on Thursday.
Dr. Shapoo is widely recognized for his exceptional contributions to national security and policing. His career spans key leadership roles, including serving as Superintendent of Police in several districts of Madhya Pradesh and as one of the founding officers of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2009. At the NIA, he led critical investigations and intelligence operations, handling some of the nation’s most sensitive terrorism-related cases.
BEML’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Shantanu Roy warmly welcomed Dr. Shapoo, stating, “Dr. Shapoo is a decorated IPS officer whose vast experience and expertise will strengthen our vigilance systems and foster transformative changes. We are thrilled to have him on board and look forward to his impactful leadership.”

Dr. Shapoo’s illustrious career includes serving as Inspector General of Law & Order, Inspector General of Anti-Naxal Operations, and Additional Director General of Special Armed Forces in Madhya Pradesh. A recipient of numerous prestigious awards, he has been honored twice with the President’s Police Gallantry Medal, the Police Medal for Meritorious Services, and the Home Minister’s Meritorious Service Medal.
Academically, Dr. Shapoo is equally accomplished, holding a Ph.D. in Security Studies from Princeton University and a Master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University, specializing in Middle East and International Security Policy.
With his impressive credentials and dedication, Dr. Shapoo’s leadership is expected to enhance vigilance and governance at BEML.
