A day after Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ghaziabad Pawan Kumar was suspended, the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday posted Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Vigilance L R Kumar there. An order in this regard has been issued by IG (Law and Order) Dr Sanjiv Gupta, asking Kumar to join immediately.
The post of the Ghaziabad police chief became vacant on Thursday after SSP Pawan Kumar was suspended by the state government for dereliction of duty and not being able to tackle crimes in the NCR district. The official government notification states that L R Kumar will be in charge of Ghaziabad police until further orders.
Kumar was transferred to the police headquarters in Lucknow as DIG Vigilance in June 2020 from Sitapur district, where he was the SP. In 2014, Kumar served as SP of Badaun after IPS officer Atul Saxena was suspended by the Akhilesh Yadav government as the district police chief in the wake of the rape and murder of two Dalit cousins.
