The Punjab government has promoted three 1998-batch IPS officers to the rank of additional director general of police (ADGP). These officers are Nilabh Kishore, Shive Kumar Verma and Jaskaran Singh.
While Nilabh and Shive are regular recruit IPS officers through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Jaskaran Singh was selected in the Punjab Police Service (SPS) through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). He was later inducted in the Indian Police Service.
Their promotion would be contingent on pending writ petitions, court orders, and compliance reports filed in the Punjab and Haryana high courts. Jaskaran Singh has been promoted subject to the review of a select list or redetermination of seniority or re-assignment of the year of allocation of IPS personnel by the Union Minister of Home Affairs. After the evaluation, he will receive cash rewards based on his ADGP level.
