IPS Amit Garg To Remain Addl Director of SVPNPA

A 1993 batch IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, Mr Amit Garg, who is Additional Director, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVP NPA), Hyderabad, will continue on the same post for a further period of three months.

According to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on May 29, the competent authority has approved that Mr. Garg will continue to hold additional charge of the post of Director, SVP NPA for a further period of three months beyond 31.05.2023 or till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

IPS Garg, a JNU alumnus in M.A. (Sociology) and M.Phil, has served in Vizianagaram district as Superintendent of Police and also was on deputation with CBI as SP/ CBI/Kolkata and Dhanbad. He held several other important assignments in Hyderabad City Police as DCP (Crimes), DCP, West Zone (L&O), Jt.Commissioner of Police (Special Branch), Addl. Commissioner of Police (L&O), Addl Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and Addl Commissioner of Police (Crimes).

As per SVP NPA website, Mr. Garg was Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada in the rank of DIG and Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam in the rank of IGP. He was CID Chief in the rank of Addl Director General of Police in the State of Andhra Pradesh.

Before joining SVP NPA, he was Chairman of State Level Police Recruitment Board in Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Garg joined the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad as Joint Director on 28th February, 2020 and the officer has been elevated to the post of Additional Director of the Academy on 09.02.2023.

IPS Amit Garg was awarded the ‘Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service’ in 2011, the ‘President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service’ on the occasion of Independence Day, 2021 and was also a recipient of Police (Antrik Suraksha Seva) Padak, Utkrisht Seva Padak for the year 2018 and Ati-Utkrisht Seva Padak for the year 2019.

He attended Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Programme at University of Minnesotta, USA during 2009-2010.
