New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the promotion of ten senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to the rank of Special Director General (SDG) in key central forces, including the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Intelligence Bureau (IB), and National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The appointments were cleared following a proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and are part of the Centre’s ongoing efforts to bolster senior leadership in national security and intelligence services.
CRPF Gets Four New Special DGs
Four officers have been appointed as Special DGs in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), India’s largest paramilitary force –
Zaki Ahmad (IPS:1993:UP) – Currently serving as IG, CRPF, he has been elevated as Special DG, CRPF. His appointment will be effective till his superannuation on March 31, 2028.
Raja Srivastava (IPS:1994:UP) – ADG, CRPF, now promoted to Special DG, CRPF. His tenure will continue till February 28, 2029.
Amit Kumar (IPS:1994:BH) – ADG, CRPF, appointed as Special DG, CRPF, up to October 31, 2030.
Deepak Kumar (IPS:1994:AM) – ADG, CRPF, promoted on an in-situ basis as Special DG, CRPF for a tenure of two years.
BSF, SSB and NIA Also Get New Leadership
Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal (IPS:1994:TN) – ADG, BSF, appointed as Special DG, Border Security Force (BSF) till his superannuation on March 31, 2032.
Anupama Nilekar Chandra (IPS:1994:BH) – ADG, SSB, promoted as Special DG, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on in-situ basis for two years.
Rakesh Aggarwal (IPS:1994:HP) – ADG, National Investigation Agency (NIA), now Special DG, NIA, on in-situ basis for a two-year tenure.
Three Officers Promoted in Intelligence Bureau
Three Additional Directors in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) have been appointed as Special DGs –
- Apte Vinayak Prabhakar (IPS:1994:TG)
- Manmeet Singh Narang (IPS:1994:AGMUT)
- Anurag Kumar (IPS:1994:MP)
All three will serve in IB as Special DGs on in-situ basis, with their posts upgraded for a fixed tenure of two years.
Appointments to Take Effect Upon Charge Assumption
According to the government notification, these appointments will come into effect from the date the officers assume charge and will remain valid until their respective superannuation dates or further government orders, whichever comes earlier.
The move is seen as a significant reshuffle aimed at enhancing the strategic and operational leadership across India’s premier security, intelligence, and counter-terrorism agencies.
