Senior IPS officer Praveen Sood took over as the new CBI director on Thursday and he will be in the post for two years. The outgoing director, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal (IPS:1985:MH), handed over the agency charge to Sood on his last working day as he completed his two-year tenure today.
Prior to this assignment, IPS Sood was the DGP of Karnataka, where he served as Superintendent of Police (SP) Bellary and Raichur, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bengaluru City, Commissioner of Police, Mysuru City, and Bengaluru City; Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Principal Secretary (Home); Director General of Police (Internal Security); and Director General of Police (CID).
On May 14, a high-powered committee comprised of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury cleared Sood’s name. Chowdhury reportedly expressed his displeasure with Sood’s nomination as the future CBI director.
