Maharashtra: Ex-IPS Abdur Rahman’s Candidature From Maharashtra’s Dhule Constituency Scrapped On the Ground Of “Office of Profit”

Amidst a recent development, Mr. Abdur Rahman’s (ex-IPS officer) candidature from Maharashtra’s Dhule Lok Sabha seat got canceled on the grounds of “office of profit.” The 1997 batch IPS officer, Mr. Abdur Rahman, had been posted as the Inspector General in the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) when he decided to resign from service in 2019 in protest of the passing of the controversial CAA in the Rajya Sabha.

Ex-IPS Rahman secured a Lok Sabha ticket from the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) to contest from Dhule against heavyweights like the BJP’s Dr. Subhash Bhamre, a two-term MP, as well as former Union Minister, and Congress nominee Shobha Bachhav, a two-term MLA.

Back in December 2019, Mr. Rahman sought voluntary retirement — but it has not yet been accepted. Later, he filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, pressing for acceptance of the same. The Maharashtra government has challenged his plea on the grounds of impending disciplinary proceedings against him.

Mr. Rahman said, “I presented my side that I am not receiving any salary, no house or vehicle, I don’t hold them anymore. Still, the officials did not agree to change their stand. They had already taken a decision and signed the rejection papers. I think there is a conspiracy behind it.”
