After a unexpected move in bureaucracy in Uttar Pradesh, Director General of Intelligence Devendra Singh Chauhan has been given the charge of Director General of Police (DGP) of the state. DS Chauhan returned to UP from central deputation in January 2020. Chauhan, a 1988 batch DG rank officer, was posted as IG in CRPF at central.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had removed Mukul Goyal from the post of DGP due to disregard for government work, lack of interest in departmental work and inaction. After removal of Goel on Wednesday, ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar was given the additional charge of the state police chief.
UP government’s Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Kumar Awasthi issued the letter of his appointment. In the letter, it has been said, “After the transfer of Director General of Police, RR-1987, Mukul Goel, it has been decided by the government to give you the additional charge of Director General of Police (Head of Department), in public interest.”
Born in Muzaffarnagar, Goel has a BTech degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
