With gangsters-turned-politicians like Mukhtar Ansari, Abbas Ansari lodged in Uttar Pradesh prisons that are already overcrowded, the state administration has asked IPS officers to inspect the district jails in Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Ballia, Mau, Fatehpur, and Banda.
The order for the inspection in 10 districts came from SN Sabat, director general of Uttar Pradesh Prisons, who also assembled the IPS team. With the help of the jail superintendent, the officers will inspect the jails.
IPS Shiv Hari Meena will inspect Prayagraj and Chitrakoot district jails, while IPS Subhash Chandra Kashyap will visit Jaunpur and Azamgarh district jails. IPS Himanshu Kumar will submit the report of Varanasi and Sonbhadra district jails and IPS Rajesh Kumar Srivastava will inspect and visit Ballia and Mau district jails.
This comes after the recent suspension of the jail superintendent of Prayagraj, Bareilly and Banda.
