The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has summoned IPS officer Dr. Rashmi Karandikar for questioning in connection with two alleged property fraud cases involving her husband, Purushottam Chavan. While she has not been named as an accused, officials want to question her regarding certain financial transactions linked to Chavan.
Dr. Karandikar was initially asked to appear on March 13 but failed to do so. Fresh summons are expected to be issued next week.
The case surfaced when Sion-based businessman Kedar Degvekar lodged an FIR at Colaba police station, alleging that Chavan defrauded him of ₹3.37 crore by promising a government quota flat at half the market price. Degvekar claimed he transferred the money between January 2020 and March 2024. Additionally, a Gujarat businessman alleged a similar fraud, stating that Chavan duped him of ₹7.42 crore between 2015 and 2024, promising development rights certificates from civic bodies in Thane and Pune.
The fraud was exposed following Chavan’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in May 2024 for a ₹263 crore Income Tax TDS scam, during which fake property documents were uncovered.
