Senior IPS officer Gajbhiye Satishkumar Ishwardas is reportedly seeking intervention from the Centre amid fears of debarment from the Central Deputation and foreign assignments for five years.
According to sources, the officer had declined a posting as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) after the Center conveyed his appointment. Despite this, the Odisha government relieved him on December 30, 2024. However, Gajbhiye has not been empanelled for the Inspector General (IG) level post, so he is reluctant to take up the new role.
To avoid potential career setbacks, the IPS officer has now submitted a representation to both the state and central governments, requesting that he not be relieved from his state cadre. The move is being seen as a bid to protect his career progression, as refusal to join the central deputation may lead to penal action, including debarment.
The situation remains fluid, and it remains to be seen how the Centre responds to Gajbhiye’s request.
