Raipur: The sexual harassment case involving senior Chhattisgarh IPS officer Ratanlal Dangi has taken a new turn. The complainant, a yoga teacher and wife of a Sub-Inspector, had accused Dangi of sexual harassment over the past seven years. However, her elder sister and brother-in-law have now publicly dismissed these allegations as false.
In a media interaction, the complainant’s sister claimed that her younger sister had a history of making false allegations, stating, “She has defamed her father and husband in the past. Now she has targeted an honest officer.” The sister also alleged that the complainant had left home multiple times with different boys during her minor years, contributing to family discord.
Allegations of Fraud and Blackmail
Family members further alleged that the woman had been previously involved in fraud and blackmailing cases. The brother-in-law claimed that she frequently used false accusations to extract money during family disputes. Reports suggest that documents and statements from her prior cases may now be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
What the Complaint Against IPS Dangi States
According to the complaint filed on October 15 at Police Headquarters, the woman alleged that her harassment by Dangi began in 2017 in Korba when he was Superintendent of Police. The complainant claimed that the interactions initially started on social media and evolved into a yoga-teaching arrangement via video calls. She alleged that harassment escalated during Dangi’s postings as IG in Rajnandgaon, Surguja, and Bilaspur.
The woman claimed that Dangi called her to his residence in his wife’s absence and threatened to transfer her husband if she did not comply. She also stated that harassment continued through long video calls from early morning until late at night, and she claimed to possess extensive digital evidence.
IPS Dangi Denies Allegations
Ratanlal Dangi, currently serving as Director of the Police Training Academy in Chandkhuri, has categorically denied the allegations, claiming that the woman is attempting to defame and blackmail him. In a written complaint to the DGP, Dangi alleged that she issued threats, including poisoning, and engaged in constant surveillance over video calls. He stated, “The woman is doing all this to defame and blackmail me.”
Investigation Underway
On instructions from Police Headquarters, IG Anand Chhabra and DIG Milana Kurre have been assigned to investigate Dangi’s complaint. The investigation team, which includes female officers, will first record the statement of the complainant and collect digital evidence, followed by Dangi’s statement. Officials have not yet announced a timeline for the completion of the investigation.
