Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved a proposal to rename the Noida International Airport at Jewar after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the decision following a Cabinet meeting on October 9, proposing the name Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar.
The state government said the decision was intended to recognise Modi’s 25 years of continuous service as the head of a government, beginning with his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001.
The Cabinet also expressed its appreciation for the Prime Minister’s leadership and contributions to Uttar Pradesh.
Why Has Jewar Airport Been Proposed for Renaming?
According to reports, the Cabinet’s resolution reflects the state government’s decision to associate the airport’s name with Narendra Modi.

The proposal concerns the airport’s name; it is separate from the airport’s construction and operational arrangements.
Jewar Airport’s Role in Regional Aviation
The airport, officially known as Noida International Airport, is located at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district. It is being developed as a major aviation facility serving the National Capital Region (NCR).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated its first phase on March 28, 2026. Commercial flight operations began on June 15, 2026, according to reports.
The airport is expected to serve as an additional aviation gateway for the NCR alongside Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
