In a heartfelt tribute to police bravery, Jharkhand Chief Minister Mr. Hemant Soren on Wednesday handed over Rs. 1.10 crore cheques each to the families of martyred constables Mr. Sunil Kumar Ram and Mr. Santan Kumar Mehta. The two constables of the Palamu district force lost their lives during an anti-insurgency operation against TSPC (Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee) rebels in September this year.

The ceremony was held at the Chief Minister’s residence, with Finance Minister Mr. Radha Krishna Kishore also in attendance.
Free Education, Residential School for Police Martyrs’ Children Announced
Mr. Soren announced that the children of both martyrs will receive free education, and further declared the state’s plan to build a residential school in Ranchi specifically for the children of martyred police personnel.
“The school will operate on the lines of private institutions and ensure high-quality education. It will be run by the state police department,” said the Chief Minister.
He further added that four acres of land within the Jharkhand Jaguar campus have already been identified for this important project.
Permanent Jobs and Pension Benefits for Martyrs’ Families
The government also confirmed that the widows of the two martyred constables, both of whom are graduates, will be appointed to clerical positions under compassionate grounds, in accordance with existing state employment policies.
The Chief Minister directed concerned officials to expedite the process of connecting the martyrs’ families with pension and retirement benefits, ensuring their financial and social security is not compromised.
Police-Only Hospital in the Pipeline
In another significant announcement, Mr. Soren shared the government’s intention to construct a dedicated hospital for police personnel and their families.
“We are working on a concrete action plan. The health of our soldiers and police personnel is a priority, and the state will ensure a dedicated medical facility to meet their needs,” he said.

Reiterating his government’s unwavering support, Mr. Soren said, “Jharkhand will always remain indebted to its martyrs. The government stands with the families in their time of grief and will ensure ease of living through continuous support and respect for their sacrifice.”
This initiative reflects a progressive, welfare-driven approach towards police families, combining monetary assistance, education, employment, and healthcare infrastructure development as a comprehensive support system.
