Online Railway Ticket Platforms Misuse: What Does The PIL Allege
The PIL seeks an independent audit of the Indian Railways passenger reservation system. According to the petition, the audit should cover online ticket booking platforms operated through IRCTC, RailOne, and related railway reservation services.
The petitioner has raised concerns regarding the alleged misuse of online ticket booking platforms and the overall functioning of the reservation ecosystem.
Demand For Independent Audit
The central demand in the PIL is for an independent examination of the railway reservation infrastructure.
The petitioner argues that an audit could help identify operational issues, improve transparency, and strengthen public confidence in the online booking system used by millions of passengers every day. The Court has not expressed any opinion on these claims and is awaiting responses from the authorities.
Importance Of Online Railway Ticket Platforms
India’s railway reservation system is among the largest digital ticketing networks in the world. Millions of passengers rely on IRCTC and related platforms daily for booking train tickets, checking availability, and managing travel plans. Because of the large number of users, any concerns related to transparency, accessibility, or misuse can have a significant impact on passengers.
Role Of IRCTC In Railway Ticket Booking
IRCTC serves as the primary online ticket booking platform for Indian Railways. The platform handles a massive volume of bookings every day and plays a key role in India’s digital public service infrastructure. Any review or audit involving IRCTC could therefore have broad implications for railway passengers across the country.
