The students, identified as Prabal Pratap Singh and Chander Bhan, are enrolled in the university’s five-year integrated LL.B. programme. According to the university’s office order, both students have been placed under indefinite suspension.

Supreme Court Disruption Case: Why Did the University Suspend the Students

The university said the decision was taken after reviewing:

  • FIR No. 108/2026
  • A report submitted by the university’s Discipline Committee on July 15

The order states that the students allegedly acted in a manner that affected the dignity of the Supreme Court. As a result, they have been:

  • Indefinitely suspended from the university.
  • Barred from entering the campus.
  • Removed from the hostel.
  • Directed to appear before the Office of the Chief Proctor within three working days and submit a written explanation.

If they fail to respond, the university said disciplinary proceedings will continue without their explanation.

What Does the FIR Allege

According to Delhi Police, the incident took place inside Court No. 13 of the Supreme Court during the hearing of a Special Leave Petition.

The FIR, registered at Tilak Marg Police Station, alleges that one of the students, who appeared as a petitioner-in-person:

  • Used abusive and unparliamentary language.
  • Threw papers inside the courtroom.
  • Created disorder during the hearing.
  • Allegedly used criminal force against a Supreme Court security staff member when officials tried to restore order.

The FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by Supreme Court security personnel.

During the hearing, the Bench questioned the petitioner’s conduct after he allegedly addressed the judges in an inappropriate manner and demanded registration of an FIR against certain officials.

The situation escalated when papers were allegedly thrown toward the Bench, leading security personnel to intervene. Despite the disruption, the Bench dismissed the petition on its merits and chose not to initiate contempt proceedings at that stage.

Delhi Police Action

Delhi Police arrested both students on July 15 following the complaint by Supreme Court security staff. During the investigation, police also reportedly recovered printed pamphlets containing objectionable material. The accused were later produced before a Delhi court, which remanded them to judicial custody as the investigation continued.
