New Delhi: The Supreme Court Law Clerk exam result discrepancy has sparked concern among candidates across India after irregularities were reported in Part-I marks.

Responding swiftly, the Supreme Court Recruitment Cell confirmed that the evaluation agency has admitted an error and requested 72 hours to correct it.

This development comes after candidates flagged mismatches between their calculated scores and official scorecards. The issue has raised questions about evaluation accuracy in one of the country’s most competitive legal recruitment processes.

Law Clerk Exam Result Controversy: Error in Part-I Evaluation Acknowledged

The Recruitment Cell issued an official notice stating that the agency responsible for conducting the Law Clerk examination has admitted a mistake in evaluating the Part-I paper.

According to the notice, the agency has sought 72 hours to rectify the discrepancies. This confirmation provides temporary relief to candidates who had raised concerns soon after the results were declared. However, the exact nature of the error has not been disclosed.

Law Clerk Exam Result Controversy: Candidates Flagged Discrepancies After Results

The issue came to light after results were announced on April 20, 2026. Many candidates took to social media claiming that their actual scores—based on the official answer key—were significantly higher than what was reflected in their scorecards.

These complaints triggered widespread concern, especially because Part-I marks play a critical role in shortlisting candidates for the next stages.

Importance of Part-I in Selection Process

The Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate recruitment is a multi-stage selection process conducted by the Supreme Court of India.

Key stages include:

  • Objective (Part-I) examination
  • Subjective paper
  • Interview round

The Part-I paper is particularly crucial as it acts as the initial screening stage, testing candidates on legal knowledge and comprehension.

Any discrepancy at this stage directly affects a candidate’s chances of progressing further.

About the 2026 Law Clerk Recruitment

Under the 2026 recruitment cycle, the Court plans to appoint around 90 Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates on a contractual basis for the 2026–2027 term.

The written examination was conducted on March 07, 2026. These positions are highly sought after by law graduates as they offer direct exposure to the functioning of India’s top judiciary.

Examination Conduct and Platform

The exam was conducted through the DigiAlm platform, operated by Tata Consultancy Services via its TCS iON system.

Although the Recruitment Cell did not officially name the agency responsible for the error, the platform used has come under discussion among candidates.

Law Clerk Exam Result Controversy: What Happens Next?

The evaluation agency is expected to:

  • Recalculate Part-I scores
  • Update corrected scorecards
  • Ensure transparency in revised results

Candidates are advised to monitor official updates from the Supreme Court Recruitment Cell.
