Bengaluru: In a significant revision to its earlier large-scale transfer of IPS officers, the Karnataka government has issued a new order making key changes in postings, particularly in the Intelligence, CID, and Mangaluru Police departments.
The fresh reshuffle comes just three days after the government transferred 35 IPS officers across the state on July 15.
Chandragupta Now Appointed as IGP, Intelligence
As per the revised order issued on Thursday, senior IPS officer Chandragupta, who was earlier posted as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Northeastern Range, Kalaburagi, has now been reassigned as IGP, Intelligence.
He replaces Y S Ravi Kumar, who has now been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The Intelligence portfolio is a sensitive and strategic position involving real-time surveillance, internal security, and liaisoning with central intelligence agencies.
New Appointments in Northeastern Range and Traffic
To fill the void in Kalaburagi, the government appointed Shantanu Sinha as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Northeastern Range.
In Bengaluru, Gopal M Byakod, who was earlier named to replace Simi Mariam George as Joint Director of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), has now been posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru South. Notably, Simi Mariam George will continue in her current role as Joint Director, FSL, reversing the earlier transfer.
Mangaluru Law & Order Reshuffle Revisited
In another revision, the government revoked the transfer of Jitendra Kumar Dayama as DCP (Law and Order), Mangaluru City. He will continue in his current position as Superintendent of Police (SP), Anti-Naxal Force, Udupi.
In his place, Mithun H N has been appointed as DCP (Law and Order), Mangaluru City, a crucial post considering Mangaluru’s history of sensitive communal and coastal law and order challenges.
Political and Administrative Context
This rare and swift revision in high-profile IPS postings suggests internal reassessments or administrative feedback after the initial order was issued. The reshuffle aims to realign key policing functions with strategic security priorities, especially ahead of major national events and the ongoing monsoon season when law and order challenges tend to peak.
