Ladakh DGP Anand Jain Calls for Close Coordination to Strengthen Security in Changthang

Ladakh DGP Anand Jain called for stronger coordination among stakeholders to maintain peace and security in sensitive border areas during his three-day Changthang tour.

Leh: Ladakh Director General of Police Anand Jain, a 1999-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has called for close coordination among security agencies, government departments and other stakeholders to maintain peace, security and stability in the Union Territory’s sensitive border areas.

Jain made the remarks during a three-day tour of Changthang, which included visits to border villages, police facilities and areas frequented by tourists. He also interacted with local residents and security personnel during the visit.

DGP reviews policing in Changthang

During the tour, Jain visited Chumathang, where he met residents and heard their concerns. He assured them that genuine issues would be taken up with the concerned authorities for appropriate action.

At Nyoma Police Station, he was accorded a guard of honour before inspecting the station’s records, infrastructure and barracks. He also interacted with police personnel deployed in the challenging terrain and reviewed the functioning of the police establishment.

A public meeting was subsequently held at the District Police Office, Changthang, with participation from Nambardars (village heads) of Nyoma, Mudh and Nidder, along with local residents.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Changthang, Syed Zaheer Abbas Jafari, briefed the DGP on policing initiatives, achievements and community-oriented activities undertaken by the district police.

‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ bike rally held

As part of the police’s awareness activities, a bike rally carrying the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ message was organised in the area.

Jain flagged off the rally in the presence of police personnel and local villagers. The initiative focused on spreading awareness about a drug-free society.

New police facility inaugurated at Korzok

Jain later visited Korzok near Tsomoriri, where he inaugurated a newly constructed prefabricated hut. The facility will serve as a police check post and accommodation for personnel deployed for tourist assistance.

During an interaction with residents, locals requested year-round deployment of police personnel, pointing out that the existing deployment was seasonal.

The DGP said the demand would be examined positively and that efforts would be made to ensure continuous police presence.

DGP visits Chumur border area

The Ladakh Police chief also visited Chumur, where he paid homage at a local monastery and interacted with security personnel deployed in the border area.

The visit concluded his three-day tour of Changthang, which was aimed at reviewing policing infrastructure, strengthening public-police relations and assessing security and development-related issues in the region.

About DGP Anand Jain

Anand Jain is a 1999-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre. He was appointed DGP of the Union Territory of Ladakh in June 2026 and took over from the previous arrangement headed by K K Sharma.

Before taking charge as DGP of Ladakh, he served as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed Police, Jammu and Kashmir. He has been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry (2006), Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2018) and President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2025).
