New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed senior IPS officer Anand Jain as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the Union Territory of Ladakh. A 1999-batch officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories) cadre, Jain was serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed Police, Jammu and Kashmir, before being transferred to Ladakh.
The appointment, announced on June 22, 2026, places one of the AGMUT cadre’s most experienced officers at the helm of policing in the strategically significant Union Territory.
Anand Jain Replaces K K Sharma
Anand Jain succeeds K K Sharma (IPS: 2012: AGMUT), who had been holding additional charge of the DGP post following the transfer of Mukesh Singh (IPS: 1996: AGMUT) to Manipur as the state’s Director General of Police.
With over 26 years of policing experience, Jain now takes charge of a region that occupies a critical position in India’s national security architecture due to its proximity to international borders.

Who Is IPS Anand Jain?
Anand Jain is a senior Indian Police Service officer of the 1999 AGMUT cadre. Over the past two decades, he has built a reputation as an experienced field officer with expertise in internal security, counter-terrorism operations, anti-corruption investigations, and police administration.
He entered the IPS through the UPSC Civil Services Examination and has since served in several challenging assignments across Jammu & Kashmir and at the national level.

DGP, Ladakh (June 2026 – Present)
Jain has now been appointed as the Director General of Police of Ladakh, becoming the top police officer in the Union Territory.

Prior to his transfer, Jain served as Additional Director General of Police (Armed), Jammu & Kashmir.
