Chennai: In a significant administrative reshuffle aimed at strengthening policing and enhancing operational efficiency across the state, the Tamil Nadu government on Monday transferred and posted 14 senior IPS officers. The changes affect several key positions in the Greater Chennai Police, city commissionerates, and specialised police wings.
The Home Department issued the transfer orders, bringing new leadership to major urban police units, including Chennai, Madurai, Tiruppur, and Salem. The reshuffle is expected to streamline law enforcement operations and improve coordination across specialised and city police formations.
Major Changes in Greater Chennai Police
One of the most notable developments in the reshuffle is the appointment of Kapilkumar C. Saratkar as the new Additional Commissioner of Police (North), Greater Chennai Police.
Currently serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Saratkar replaces Pravesh Kumar, who has been transferred and appointed as IGP, Coastal Security Group-CID.
The Greater Chennai Police also witnessed changes in the Central Crime Branch and Traffic Wing.
New Additional Commissioner for Central Crime Branch
P.C. Thenmozhi, IGP, has been appointed Additional Commissioner of Police, Central Crime Branch (CCB), Chennai.
She takes over from A. Radhika, who has been posted as IGP (Administration) in the office of the Director General of Police.
The Central Crime Branch handles investigations into major economic offences, cyber frauds, cheating cases, and complex criminal investigations in the city.
Traffic Wing Gets New Leadership
The state government has appointed B. Shamoondeshwari, IGP, as Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Greater Chennai Police.
She replaces F. Karthikeyan, who has been transferred as IGP, Social Justice and Human Rights Wing.
The Traffic Wing plays a crucial role in managing Chennai’s growing vehicular movement, road safety initiatives, and traffic enforcement measures.
New Additional Commissioner (Headquarters) for Chennai Police
Another important appointment is that of A.G. Babu, IGP, who has been posted as Additional Commissioner of Police (Headquarters), Greater Chennai Police.
He succeeds Joshi Nirmal Kumar, who has now been appointed Commissioner of Police, Salem City.
The Headquarters wing oversees administration, personnel management, and operational coordination within the Greater Chennai Police.
New Police Commissioners for Salem, Tiruppur and Madurai
The reshuffle has also brought leadership changes in three major city police commissionerates.
Salem Gets New Police Commissioner
Joshi Nirmal Kumar has been appointed Commissioner of Police, Salem City.
His appointment is expected to strengthen policing and law-and-order management in one of Tamil Nadu’s rapidly growing urban centres.
Tiruppur Gets New Commissioner
The government has appointed S. Rajeswari, IGP, as Commissioner of Police, Tiruppur City.
Tiruppur, India’s knitwear and textile export hub, requires robust policing due to its large industrial ecosystem and migrant workforce.
Madurai Commissioner Replaced
Former Tiruppur City Commissioner S. Rajendran has been transferred and posted as Commissioner of Police, Madurai City.
Madurai is among Tamil Nadu’s most important cultural, commercial, and religious centres, making the position strategically significant.
Changes at DGP Headquarters and Specialised Wings
The reshuffle also includes senior-level changes in specialised police units and the office of the Director General of Police.
ADGP Headquarters Appointment
Ayush Mani Tiwari, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), has been appointed ADGP (Headquarters) in the office of the Director General of Police.
The Headquarters division plays a central role in police administration, personnel management, and policy implementation across the state.
New Head for Idol Wing-CID
Anil Kumar Giri, IGP, has been appointed IGP, Idol Wing-CID, Chennai.
The specialised wing investigates idol theft cases and works to recover valuable temple artifacts and heritage objects that have been smuggled or illegally removed.
Focus on Administrative Efficiency
The latest reshuffle is part of the Tamil Nadu government’s broader effort to strengthen police administration, improve law-and-order management, and place experienced officers in key operational and investigative positions.
With changes spanning the Greater Chennai Police, city commissionerates, and specialised wings, the transfers are expected to enhance coordination, improve policing outcomes, and address emerging law-enforcement challenges across the state.
The newly posted officers have been directed to assume charge of their respective assignments as per the Home Department’s notification.
