Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved ₹20 crore for pre-construction activities for a bypass road around Visavadar in Junagadh district. The project will connect the Bagasara-Jetpur State Highway with the Visavadar-Satadhar-Sasan Gir State Highway.
The first phase will cover land acquisition, utility shifting, preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and other pre-construction activities. The Roads and Buildings Department will implement the work.
Bypass to Ease Traffic in Visavadar
The decision follows requests from local representatives and residents seeking a bypass to reduce heavy traffic passing through Visavadar city.
Several important state highways pass through the city, including the Bagasara-Jetpur, Dhari-Savarkundla, Visavadar-Satadhar and Junagadh-Mendarda-Keshod routes. The main road connecting Amreli with Somnath also passes through Visavadar.
The bypass is expected to divert traffic away from the city and improve movement for local residents as well as through travellers.

Better Access to Pilgrimage and Tourist Sites
Visavadar is also an important route for visitors travelling to several religious and tourist destinations in the surrounding region.
These include Satadhar pilgrimage site, Sasan Gir Forest, Kanakeshwari Temple, Dham Rampara in Rupal, Nagbai Temple in Rampara and Sant Shri Rohidas Temple in Sarsai. These destinations attract lakhs of devotees and visitors.
The bypass could improve traffic flow on routes leading towards these destinations while reducing congestion within Visavadar.
Gujarat Pushes Road Infrastructure
The ₹20 crore approval marks the initial step towards developing the proposed bypass. With land acquisition, utility shifting and DPR preparation now covered under the first phase, the project is expected to move towards subsequent stages of road development.
The initiative is part of Gujarat’s broader focus on strengthening road connectivity, easing congestion and supporting movement around key tourism and pilgrimage centres.
