Patna: A six-year-old boy who drew attention during the BPSC TRE-4 protests in Patna met Bihar Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, at the state police headquarters on Sunday and submitted a written complaint seeking a judicial inquiry into the police action during the protest.
The child arrived at Sardar Patel Bhawan with his parents and alleged that he was subjected to police action and kept at a police station for around eight hours. He also alleged that he was not allowed to meet his parents during that period.
Child submits complaint to DGP
The child’s complaint relates to the August 25 protest, during which police personnel used a lathi charge after some protesters allegedly moved towards a restricted area and attempted to breach barricades.
After meeting the DGP, the child said he had submitted his letter and expressed hope that his grievances would be addressed.
“I have faith in the DGP and hope I will get justice,” the child said.
He also questioned the police action, asking, “My parents were beaten. Were they criminals?”
Police deny detaining the child
The police have disputed the allegation that the child was detained.
According to the police version, some protesters moved towards a restricted area and attempted to break through barricades. Personnel then noticed the child amid the crowd and moved him to a safe location to protect him from a possible stampede.
Police said the child was subsequently handed over safely to his family.
Child had drawn attention during protest
The six-year-old had become a talking point during the BPSC TRE-4 agitation after photographs and videos showing him among the protesters circulated widely.
His meeting with the DGP comes amid competing accounts of what happened to him during the August 25 protest, with the child’s complaint alleging police action while the police maintain that he was moved to safety rather than detained.
