In a significant move towards digital transformation, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has introduced an online premium payment facility through a dedicated WhatsApp bot, offering policyholders a seamless and convenient alternative for managing their policies.

Registered users of LIC’s customer portal can now use the official WhatsApp number 8976862090 to check policies due for premium payment and complete the transaction directly through the messaging platform using UPI, net banking, or card payments. The entire customer journey — from identifying due policies to payment and receipt generation — takes place within the WhatsApp interface, ensuring ease of use and accessibility.

Speaking on the launch, LIC’s CEO and Managing Director Siddhartha Mohanty emphasized that the initiative reflects LIC’s commitment to improving customer experience. “This option will provide ease of operations for our customers and will be a handy tool to pay premiums from anywhere, anytime through the fast-growing medium of WhatsApp,” he said. Mohanty also noted that the move is aimed at increasing efficiency and productivity in LIC’s service delivery.

The LIC customer portal currently has over 2.2 crore registered policyholders, with more than 3 lakh users logging in daily to access a range of digital services. The addition of the WhatsApp bot is expected to further boost digital engagement and offer greater flexibility to policyholders.
