New Delhi/Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav showcased the state’s renewable energy achievements and future roadmap at the 7th International Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition 2026 in New Delhi. Addressing global policymakers, industry leaders and energy experts, the Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh is emerging as one of India’s leading green energy hubs and remains fully committed to supporting the country’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030.

To promote sustainable mobility, Dr. Yadav travelled from the airport to the conference venue using the Delhi Metro Airport Express Line, highlighting the importance of clean public transport powered largely by solar energy.

Madhya Pradesh Strengthening Its Position as a Green Energy Hub

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Yadav said the state has created an investment-friendly environment supported by strong infrastructure and abundant natural resources, enabling rapid growth in renewable energy and green industries.

He added that the state government has introduced progressive policies for renewable energy, energy storage and biomass development, attracting investments and accelerating innovation in the clean energy sector.

The conference focused on energy security, green technologies, innovation, investment and international cooperation to strengthen global partnerships in renewable energy.

Renewable Energy Capacity Increases 25 Times in 12 Years

The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s remarkable growth in renewable energy generation.

Key achievements include:

  • Renewable energy capacity increased from 438 MW to over 11,000 MW in the last 12 years.
  • The state introduced dedicated Renewable Energy, Pumped Hydro Energy Storage and Biomass Policies over the past two years.
  • Madhya Pradesh continues to attract major investments in clean energy infrastructure.

Major Solar Projects Driving India’s Clean Energy Transition

Dr. Yadav showcased several landmark renewable energy projects that have positioned Madhya Pradesh among India’s leading renewable energy producers.

Key projects include:

  • 750 MW Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Project
    • First project in India to achieve a solar tariff lower than coal-based power.
    • Recipient of the World Bank Group President’s Award for Excellence.
    • Its case study is taught at Harvard University.
  • 1,500 MW Agar-Shajapur-Neemuch Solar Project
    • Achieved a record-low solar tariff of ₹2.14 per unit.
    • Supplies green electricity to Indian Railways across eight states.
  • 278 MW Floating Solar Project
    • India’s largest floating solar power project.
    • Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25, 2025.

State Expanding Battery Energy Storage Infrastructure

The Chief Minister said energy storage is becoming a key pillar of Madhya Pradesh’s clean energy strategy.

The state is developing multiple battery storage projects to improve grid stability and ensure reliable renewable energy supply.

Major initiatives include:

  • Morena Solar & Battery Storage Project
    • 440 MW solar capacity
    • 880 MWh battery energy storage
    • First project in the state with competitively priced power purchase agreements.
  • Ongoing development of:
    • 4-hour battery storage projects
    • 6-hour battery storage projects
    • 24-hour renewable energy with storage projects for uninterrupted clean electricity supply.

These projects are expected to benefit industries, distribution companies and data centres requiring reliable round-the-clock power.

Rooftop Solar Programme Continues to Expand

Dr. Yadav said the state is also accelerating rooftop solar adoption.

Current progress:

  • 1,300 government buildings are being equipped with 48 MW of rooftop solar capacity.
  • Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, nearly 1.5 lakh households have already installed rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 566 MW.
  • Under the Surya Mitra Agriculture Feeder Scheme, proposals worth nearly 14,900 MW have been received, with significant participation from farmers and MSMEs.

Clean Public Transport Message Through Delhi Metro Journey

Before attending the conference, Dr. Mohan Yadav travelled via the Delhi Metro Airport Express Line instead of using conventional transport.

The Chief Minister said the journey symbolised his government’s commitment to clean energy and environmentally friendly public transportation, noting that Delhi Metro extensively uses solar power for its operations.

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi Highlights India’s Renewable Energy Progress

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi said India is rapidly advancing towards clean energy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

He noted that:

  • India is set to cross 300 GW of installed non-fossil electricity capacity.
  • More than 50 lakh families have benefited from the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
  • States like Madhya Pradesh have made significant contributions to expanding renewable energy capacity.

He urged all states to continue focusing on sustainable development, energy efficiency, environmental conservation and wider adoption of clean energy.

Key Renewable Energy Storage Models Presented

The conference presentation highlighted several future-ready energy storage models:

4-Hour Battery Energy Storage

  • Stores solar energy for evening peak demand.
  • Improves grid reliability and power availability.

6-Hour Battery Energy Storage

  • Enables longer-duration energy supply.
  • Supports better renewable integration and demand management.

24-Hour Renewable Energy with Storage

  • Combines solar power with long-duration energy storage.
  • Ensures continuous clean electricity for industries, utilities and high-demand consumers.

Role of NRED and RUMSL

The New and Renewable Energy Department (NRED), Government of Madhya Pradesh, is responsible for renewable energy policy formulation, investment promotion, project development and coordination of the state’s energy transition initiatives.

Meanwhile, Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL)—a joint venture of Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)—serves as the nodal agency for developing large-scale solar parks, floating solar projects, hybrid renewable energy systems and battery storage projects. Through these initiatives, RUMSL is helping position Madhya Pradesh as a national leader in renewable energy and energy storage solutions.
