Lucknow: The lawyers’ chambers demolition case has taken a major turn after the Allahabad High Court directed authorities to remove illegally constructed lawyers’ chambers near the District and Sessions Court in Lucknow. The Court also allowed the occupants one final opportunity to vacate the premises or establish a valid legal claim before demolition. The order aims to clear public pathways while maintaining law and order during the demolition process.

Details of Lucknow Lawyers Chambers Demolition

The Allahabad High Court directed the Lucknow Municipal Corporation to demolish around 72 illegally constructed lawyers’ chambers located near the District and Sessions Court in Lucknow. A Division Bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice Rajeev Bharti passed the order while hearing the case Anuradha Singh and Others v State of Uttar Pradesh and Others.

Court Directs Peaceful Lucknow Lawyers Chambers Demolition

The Bench instructed that the demolition should preferably be carried out on a Sunday so that judicial work is not disrupted. The Court also warned that if anyone obstructs the demolition drive or creates any unlawful situation, authorities may take legal action as permitted under law.

Encroachers Get One Final Chance

While ordering demolition, the High Court also provided relief to those working from the illegal chambers. The Bench directed the authorities to issue fresh written notices to all 72 alleged encroachers within one week. The occupants will have an opportunity to voluntarily vacate the premises or produce valid documents supporting their possession before further action.

Why the Court Passed the Lucknow Lawyers Chambers Demolition Order

The Court noted that illegal constructions had encroached upon public pathways around the District and Sessions Court complex. In an earlier order, the Bench observed that these encroachments were causing inconvenience to the public and affecting free movement around the court premises.

Municipal Corporation’s Submission

The Lucknow Nagar Nigam informed the Court that more than 100 illegal chambers had already been demolished in the area. The civic body also stated that notices had initially been served to 72 encroachers, most of whom were advocates who had constructed chambers or shops. However, the municipality informed the Court that only 14 of those 72 structures had been demolished so far.

Court Seeks Coordination Between Authorities

To ensure peaceful implementation, the High Court directed the Commissioner of Police, Lucknow, the District Magistrate, and the Municipal Commissioner to coordinate closely during the demolition drive. The Court emphasized that proper planning should prevent any law-and-order issues during the removal of illegal constructions.

Lucknow Lawyers Chambers Demolition: Next Hearing

The matter remains under judicial monitoring. The Allahabad High Court has listed the case for its next hearing on September 10, when authorities are expected to report on the progress of compliance with the Court’s directions.
