Bhopal/Ahmedabad: Madhya Pradesh is set to receive more than ₹43,000 crore in investment from Torrent Group, with various ongoing and upcoming projects expected to create more than 15,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said the investment will help meet the state’s growing energy requirements and strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s journey towards energy self-reliance. He made the statement after meeting Samir Mehta, Chairman of Torrent Group and Torrent Power Limited, in Ahmedabad on August 12.
Additional Chief Secretary, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion, Neeraj Mandloi, Secretary John Kinsley, and MPIDC Managing Director Chandramouli Shukla were also present during the meeting.
₹22,000 Crore Anuppur Thermal Power Project
One of the major components of Torrent Group’s investment in Madhya Pradesh is a 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power project in Anuppur district.
The project involves an investment of around ₹22,000 crore and is expected to generate approximately 7,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Key developments include:
- Torrent Power signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) on January 27, 2026.
- Land acquisition for the project has been completed.
- Construction work has been allocated to reputed companies, including L&T and Tata Projects.
- Environmental and forest clearances have been received.
- Pre-construction activities are currently progressing rapidly at the project site.

Expansion of Pumped Storage and Wind Energy Projects
Torrent Group is also expanding its renewable energy and energy storage portfolio in Madhya Pradesh.
A 1,500 MW Patalkot Pumped Storage Project is under development in Chhindwara district. The project involves a proposed investment of ₹7,500 crore and is expected to create around 4,000 jobs.
Additionally, a 250 MW wind energy project is being developed in Ratlam and Ujjain.
- Investment: ₹2,000 crore
- Expected employment: Around 500 jobs
- Capacity: 250 MW
Torrent Group already operates a 36 MW wind power unit in Mandsaur, which is successfully operational.
The group is also working on another 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power project, involving an investment of around ₹11,000 crore and expected to provide approximately 3,500 jobs.
MP Plans 2,800 MW Thermal Power Procurement
Madhya Pradesh is also preparing to strengthen its long-term power supply infrastructure.
According to an assessment by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the state is expected to require around 1,900 MW of additional thermal power capacity by 2036-37.
To meet future electricity demand and ensure reliable power availability, the state government is initiating a transparent and competitive tender process for procuring 2,800 MW of thermal power capacity under the DBFOO (Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate) model.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has invited Torrent Power to participate in this major tender process.

Torrent Group’s Pharma Investment in Pithampur
Torrent Group’s presence in Madhya Pradesh extends beyond the energy sector.
The group operates a USFDA-approved pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Pithampur, Dhar district.
- Investment: ₹300 crore
- Employment: More than 400 people
- Facility: USFDA-approved pharmaceutical manufacturing unit
The facility further strengthens Torrent Group’s diversified investment presence in Madhya Pradesh.
Torrent Power Targets 10 GW Renewable Capacity by 2030
Torrent Power, the energy arm of Torrent Group, has an installed power generation capacity of approximately 5.1 GW.
The company is working towards developing around 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Its renewable energy investments include:
- Solar power
- Wind power
- Hybrid renewable projects
- Battery energy storage

The expansion is aimed at supporting the company’s long-term renewable energy strategy while contributing to India’s clean energy transition.
