Madhya Pradesh Farmers to Get Up to Four Times Compensation for Agricultural Land Acquisition: CM Mohan Yadav

Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav said farmers whose agricultural land is acquired for government projects will receive four times compensation, subject to applicable rules.

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced that farmers whose agricultural land is acquired for the construction of government projects will be provided four times the compensation for their land.

Yadav made the announcement while addressing the Balram Krishi Mahotsav at Karond Mandi in Bhopal through video conference. He also urged farmers not to sell their agricultural land in haste and said protecting farmers’ interests remains a priority for his government.

Four-Fold Compensation Announced for Land Acquisition

The Chief Minister said that when agricultural land is acquired for a government scheme or project, farmers would receive compensation equivalent to four times the value of the land.

He also stressed the importance of agricultural land for farming communities and appealed to farmers to safeguard their land.

However, the actual compensation payable in an individual land-acquisition case will depend on the applicable law, government orders, location of the land, nature of the project and acquisition process.

The four-fold compensation announcement should therefore not be treated as an automatic entitlement in every land transaction without verification of the applicable rules.

‘Kavach Yojana’ Benefits Highlighted

Yadav also spoke about the government’s Kavach Yojana, saying it had helped address irregularities associated with old cooperative accounts and enabled around 5,000 farmers to receive loans and benefits under various schemes.

According to the Chief Minister, the scheme also provides for:

  • Interest-free loans for eligible farmers.
  • Up to 12 months to repay loans.
  • Resolution of issues linked to older irregularities in cooperative accounts.
  • Access to benefits under various government schemes.

Focus on Processing, Horticulture and Allied Activities

The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of agriculture in Madhya Pradesh’s economy and cited the state’s position in various agricultural sectors. He said Madhya Pradesh ranks second nationally in foodgrain production, first in pulses, second in oilseeds and third in milk production.

The government is also targeting expansion in irrigation, horticulture and food processing.

Key targets highlighted by the Chief Minister include:

  • Increasing irrigation capacity to 100 lakh hectares.
  • Expanding the horticulture area to 30 lakh hectares.
  • Establishing 10,000 new micro food-processing units.
  • Promoting crop diversification and natural farming.
  • Encouraging horticulture, animal husbandry and fisheries.

Government Pushes Value Addition in Agriculture

Yadav urged farmers to look beyond crop cultivation and explore activities such as processing, branding and marketing. The government is seeking to promote diversification and allied agricultural activities alongside traditional farming.

The announcements were made during the Balram Krishi Mahotsav, where the state government’s agricultural initiatives and programmes for farmers were discussed.

The four-times compensation announcement is expected to be particularly significant for farmers whose agricultural land is required for government projects, though its implementation will depend on the specific land-acquisition framework and applicable government rules.
