New Delhi/Bhopal: In two significant personnel developments, Maheswar Maji (IRS(C&IT):2016) has been appointed as Deputy Director in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on deputation for four years, while Shraddha Tiwari (IPS:2012:MP) has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) by the Madhya Pradesh Government.
The appointments strengthen the enforcement and policing leadership in two key domains—narcotics control and state policing.
Maheswar Maji Appointed Deputy Director in NCB
The competent authority has appointed Maheswar Maji, a 2016-batch Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) officer, as Deputy Director in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on deputation for a period of four years.
The appointment is expected to leverage his extensive experience in customs enforcement, anti-smuggling operations and regulatory administration in strengthening the country’s fight against narcotics trafficking.
Academic Background
Born on March 13, 1988, Maheswar Maji hails from Burnpur in Asansol, Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal.
He holds an M.Sc. in Physics and joined the Indian Revenue Service after clearing the Civil Services Examination. He underwent induction training with the 68th Batch at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), Faridabad.
Career in Customs Administration
Over the years, Maji has served in several important customs assignments involving enforcement, investigations and trade facilitation.
His key postings include:
- Deputy Commissioner, Jamshedpur (November 2021 – March 2022)
- Deputy Commissioner, Kolkata Zone (May 2022 – May 2023)
- Deputy Commissioner, Kolkata Port, where he subsequently earned promotion as Joint Commissioner of Customs.
At Kolkata Port, he handled several critical wings, including:
- Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch (SIIB)
- Prosecution Cell
- Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
- Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Cell
With his move to the NCB, he is expected to contribute to combating cross-border drug trafficking and strengthening coordination among enforcement agencies.
IPS Officer Shraddha Tiwari Promoted to DIG
In another significant development, the Madhya Pradesh Home Department has promoted Shraddha Tiwari (IPS:2012:MP) to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) under the provisions of the Indian Police Service (Pay) Rules, 2016.
Prior to her elevation, she was serving in the Selection Grade (SP level).
Career Journey
Shraddha Tiwari originally served in the Madhya Pradesh State Police Service (SPS) before being inducted into the Indian Police Service.
She officially joined the IPS cadre on February 5, 2020, and belongs to the 2012 batch of the Madhya Pradesh cadre.
Before her promotion, she was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters/Zone-2), Bhopal, a position she had held since September 24, 2024.
Public Safety Initiatives
During her tenure in Bhopal, Tiwari actively promoted cybercrime awareness among citizens.
She spearheaded the Cyber Fraud Pe Charcha campaign in collaboration with the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) to educate people about:
- Social media frauds
- Fake employment scams
- Instant loan frauds
- Online financial fraud
Honoured for Meritorious Service
Shraddha Tiwari was awarded the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2019 in recognition of her distinguished service in policing.
