Varanasi: A Varanasi court has directed the Chowk Police to submit a clear investigation report in the case registered against former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, after his counsel objected to the report earlier filed by the investigating agency.

The direction was issued by the court of Special Chief Judicial Magistrate Krishna Kumar, which fixed the next hearing in the matter for August 11.

Court Orders Fresh Clarification

During the hearing, Amitabh Thakur’s counsel, Anuj Yadav, expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation report submitted by the Chowk Police, arguing that it lacked clarity.

Accepting the submission, the court directed the investigating agency to file a clear and comprehensive investigation report before the next date of hearing.

Background of the Case

The case was registered at Chowk Police Station, Varanasi, on December 9, following a complaint by Ambarish Singh Bhola, a resident of Badi Piyari and an honorary member of the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA).

According to the complaint, Amitabh Thakur allegedly posted a video on his social media account on November 30, making false allegations that Bhola was involved in criminal cases.

The complainant further alleged that Thakur circulated misleading and incorrect information on social media, accusing him without evidence of involvement in the high-profile cough syrup case. Bhola claimed the posts seriously damaged his social reputation and amounted to defamatory allegations.

Next Hearing on August 11

Following the objections raised over the police report, the court has now asked the Chowk Police to submit a clearer investigation report.

The matter is scheduled to come up for further hearing on August 11.
