Major IPS Appointments: M C V Maheswar Reddy Gets DIG Post in CISF, Amitendra Nath Sinha Appointed IG in BSF

Two IPS officers from the Maharashtra and Odisha cadres have received new central assignments, with M C V Maheswar Reddy moving to CISF as DIG and Amitendra Nath Sinha appointed IG in BSF.

New Delhi: The Central Government has approved key appointments of two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to the country’s central armed police forces, with M C V Maheswar Reddy and Amitendra Nath Sinha being assigned new responsibilities in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Border Security Force (BSF), respectively.

The two orders were issued on September 16, 2026. While 2012-batch Maharashtra cadre IPS officer M C V Maheswar Reddy has been appointed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the CISF, 2002-batch Odisha cadre officer Amitendra Nath Sinha, currently Inspector General (IG) in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been appointed IG in the BSF on a lateral shift basis.

M C V Maheswar Reddy Appointed DIG in CISF

Mr Reddy, IPS (2012), has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General in the Central Industrial Security Force.

The appointment was issued by the Central Government on September 16, 2026.

A 2012-batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, Mr Reddy is a direct recruit through the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Before his latest appointment, he was serving as Superintendent of Police, Jalgaon.

According to the service profile provided, he has been posted as SP, Jalgaon, at Pay Level 13 since February 3, 2024.

Reddy joined the IPS on September 3, 2012. His home state is Andhra Pradesh.

His Professional Background

Mr Reddy holds an MBBS qualification from Andhra Pradesh.

His service record contains nine year-end snapshots covering the period from 2018 to 2026 and records three promotions during his career. He has completed approximately 14 years of service in the IPS.

His record also includes the Police Medal for Gallantry, awarded in 2020.

The move to CISF now places the officer in a senior leadership position in one of India’s central armed police forces responsible for security of critical infrastructure, airports and other designated establishments.

Amitendra Nath Sinha Appointed IG in BSF

Mr Sinha, IPS (2002), has been appointed Inspector General in the Border Security Force on a lateral shift basis.

He was serving as Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force before the latest appointment.

His new assignment in the BSF has been approved up to July 10, 2028. His central deputation tenure is counted with effect from July 11, 2023.

The September 16 order marks a lateral shift in his central assignment, moving him from the CRPF to the BSF at the Inspector General level.

2002-Batch Odisha Cadre IPS Officer

Mr Sinha is a 2002-batch Odisha cadre IPS officer and a direct recruit through the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

He joined the IPS on September 2, 2002, and has completed approximately 24 years of service.

His home state is Bihar.

According to the service details provided, Sinha has been serving as IG in the CRPF at Pay Level 14 since July 11, 2023. His earlier profile also records responsibilities associated with CRPF communications.

Education and Service Recognition

He holds LLB and LLM qualifications from Bihar.

His service record includes the Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak, awarded in 2013.

With his latest appointment, Sinha will continue his central deputation in the BSF following the lateral shift from the CRPF. The assignment has been approved until July 10, 2028.

Two IPS Officers Move to Different Central Forces

The two appointments involve senior officers with long service careers across state policing and central deputation.

Mr Reddy, a 2012-batch Maharashtra cadre officer with an MBBS qualification and a Police Medal for Gallantry, moves from his role as SP, Jalgaon, to the CISF as DIG.

Mr Sinha, a 2002-batch Odisha cadre officer who has served in the CRPF at IG level, moves laterally to the BSF as IG until July 10, 2028.

The appointments place both officers in key positions within central armed police organisations and mark their latest service assignments at the Centre.
