Mumbai: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has extended the tenure of Biju George as Director (Operations) of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) from October 27, 2026, until his superannuation on February 28, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
MDL informed the stock exchanges about the government’s decision on September 23, 2026. The extension will allow Biju George to continue overseeing the company’s operations across its key shipbuilding, submarine, offshore and commercial projects.
Biju George’s Tenure Extended Till February 2029
According to the disclosure, Biju George’s extended tenure as Director (Operations) will take effect from October 27, 2026.
His tenure will continue until:
- February 28, 2029, the date of his superannuation; or
- Until further orders,
whichever is earlier.
The extension follows the Ministry of Defence’s decision and has been disclosed by MDL under the applicable stock exchange regulations.

Biju George Has Three Decades of Experience With MDL
Biju George has around three decades of experience with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, including extensive experience in the design and development of frontline warships.
He was appointed Director (Shipbuilding) of MDL on October 27, 2021.
He holds a postgraduate degree in Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture from IIT Kharagpur.
During his career at MDL, he spent around two decades working on the design of frontline warships, including Missile Destroyers and Frigates.
Led P17A Frigate Programme for Indian Navy
Before becoming Director (Shipbuilding), Biju George served as Project Superintendent of the P17A Frigate Programme for the Indian Navy.
The P17A programme involves the construction of advanced stealth frigates for the Indian Navy and represents a significant shipbuilding programme undertaken by MDL.
Biju George has also headed the Shipbuilding Design Department of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, gaining experience across design, project execution and shipbuilding operations.
Redesignated as Director (Operations) After Internal Reorganisation
Following an internal organisational restructuring at MDL, Biju George was redesignated as Director (Operations).
In his current role, he is responsible for end-to-end execution across the company’s major business areas, including:
- Shipbuilding projects
- Submarine projects
- Offshore projects
- Commercial projects
His responsibilities cover project execution and operational oversight across MDL’s diverse shipbuilding activities.
Disclosure Made Under SEBI Regulations
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders disclosed the extension of Biju George’s tenure under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The disclosure provides details of the revised tenure and confirms the continuation of Biju George as Director (Operations) from October 27, 2026, subject to the stated conditions.
