Meerut: GAIL Gas Limited is expanding Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connectivity to 1,750 additional residential quarters of the Indian Army in Meerut Cantonment under the NIRMAN initiative. The expansion is aimed at supporting the adoption of a safer, cleaner and more efficient cooking fuel among Army personnel and their families.
The latest expansion builds on GAIL Gas Limited’s successful rollout of PNG connectivity across 7,200 Army residential quarters in Meerut Cantt. The initiative represents an ongoing effort to support cleaner energy use within the cantonment and reduce dependence on conventional LPG for residential cooking requirements.
GAIL Gas Expands PNG Network Across Army Residential Quarters
Under the latest phase of the NIRMAN initiative, PNG connectivity will be extended to another 1,750 residential quarters of the Indian Army in Meerut Cantt.
The expansion will further increase access to piped natural gas for Army personnel and their families, providing a continuous fuel supply through a dedicated pipeline network.

In addition to residential quarters, a proposal is also underway to extend PNG supply to 265 messes and cook houses in Meerut Cantonment.
These facilities play an important role in providing meals to Army personnel, with the messes and cook houses collectively supporting nearly 20,000 meals every day.
The proposed PNG connectivity is expected to help these facilities transition from LPG to piped natural gas for their cooking requirements.
The planned expansion covers:
- 265 Army messes and cook houses
- Nearly 20,000 meals served daily
- Proposed replacement of LPG with PNG

NIRMAN Initiative Supports Cleaner Energy Adoption
The NIRMAN initiative is supporting the expansion of PNG infrastructure in Meerut Cantt, with the latest proposal extending beyond residential areas to include institutional cooking facilities.
PNG offers a piped and continuous supply of natural gas, reducing the need for handling and storing LPG cylinders. For residential quarters as well as large cooking facilities, the shift to PNG can support more convenient fuel management and cleaner energy consumption.
