The A Revanth Reddy government of Telangana has lately appointed a 1992-batch IPS officer, Dr. Jitender, as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana. Officer Jitender, who was last posted as Principal Secretary to Government in the Home Department, replaced Mr. Ravi Gupta (1990-batch IPS officer), who instead has been posted as Special Chief Secretary in the Home Department.
Telangana’s new Top Cop has the degree of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the School of Management Studies from JNTU in Hyderabad. Over his three-decade-long stint in India’s premium police service, Officer Jitender served in various capacities, including Superintendent of Police (SP) of Mahabubnagar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Vizag and Warangal Ranges. He was also the Additional Commissioner of Police – Traffic in Hyderabad and brought in several innovations, including automated signals, an intelligent traffic management system and a cashless challan system, the first such in India.
Officer Jitender had served as the Additional DGP (Law & Order) of Telangana and had been serving as the Principal Secretary to the Government in the Home Department for the last one and a half years. In his previous role, the IPS officer monitored the policy and administrative matters of various departments like the Police, Fire Services, Prisons, Director of Prosecutions, Sainik Welfare, Police Housing Corporation, Special Protection Force, Printing & Stationary, among others.
During his extensive career with the Indian Police Service, Officer Jitender received several prestigious accolades like the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and Internal Security Medal by the Centre.
